I felt pretty good about the rear fenders, so I decided to jump into shaving the doors. Actually, my wife said "You stare at that car too much, you need to get something done." So I did. The passenger side had a lock just below the door handle. I got that knocked out quick, and moved on to the door handle area. This would be harder because the door moulding is curved. I cut the hole out with my air cutoff wheel.

Behind the door handle is a steel reinforcement backing plate. I had to cut the hole out larger than this piece. I didn't want to cut all the way down to the moulding crease, because it would be too hard to get it smooth. I carefully measured out the patch to match the hole, bent it to the right curvature over my piece of railroad track used as an anvil, and welded it in place.

After grinding it smooth, I think the heat made some of the curve flatten out. I had to beat on it from inside the door panel for a while to get it back to the right shape. Next time I'll use 16 gauge instead of this little 22 gauge stuff.
